Seven Tips to a Fun Summer Session

I am definitely ready for a hot summer, but are you? I put together seven ways you can make sure your summer portrait session goes off without a hitch!

1. Dress appropriately! Everyone knows Summer means hot and humid weather, which leads to sticky bodies. Make sure to choose breathable, lightweight fabrics. As for shoes, flats or loafers are a great option!

2. Don’t forget about you hair. If you or someone in your family has hair that reacts to humidity, throw their hair in a fun updo or a pretty braid. You can always play it up with a fun head scarf or use a little product to help keep the frizz at bay.

3. Pack the necessities. When packing for your photo session, we recommend bringing the following items: Lots of water for everyone, a snack, sunscreen, umbrella for shade, a water mister, anything to touch up makeup and since we live in Southern Oregon, bug spray! I am a full service photographer so I always bring all natural bug repellent with me to each session for you and anyone else to use if needed

4. Creativity! Summer is such a fun season which can lead to so amazing photo sessions, especially in Southern Oregon. For example, the Jackson County fair, the Medford Saturday Market, the Spray park in Medford Oregon or even the spray park in Central Point! There are an endless amount of fun places and things we can do in and around Southern Oregon, so let’s get creative!!

5. Think head to toe details! For example, if you are set on wearing sandals or open toed shoes, make sure you have manicured feet. If it’s breezy, a hat or scarf can be a fun accessory!

6. Rest assured knowing I will not let you overheat. Sometimes the weather in Southern Oregon can be a bit temperamental and it’s hard to make yourself go out into the scorching heat, but know that we will have an amazing shoot. We will spend lots of time in the shade, dive into the cool A/C when we can, I will never push your family into staying longer than they can handle and we will do our outdoor sessions either early in the morning or in the evening to beat the heat.

7. Bring some fun props! Southern Oregon is chalked full with amazing scenery, so it’s always fun to play it up. I like to choose locations that really feature the outdoors and your family. It’s so fun to incorporate props with that. A vintage stool in the middle of a field, a blanket and picnic in the woods, balloons and sparklers by the river, having a water fight. There are so many fun things and props we can incorporate in your session!
